Vote On Oct. 7

September 27, 2017
Wetzel Chronicle

In a recent teleconference with newspapers throughout the state, Governor Jim Justice said the Oct. 7 vote - for the road bond referendum - would be the most important vote ever cast in the history of West Virginia.

We will let you be the judge of those words, and you should be the judge of those words.

There are strong feelings, for and against, this upcoming vote. The best known project for our area is the stretch of highway from Proctor to Kent. A vote in favor of the referendum promises that this road would be widened to four lanes.

Some residents argue that the passage of the referendum would not benefit our county however. They think funding could be put to better use. Others, including Senator Charles Clements (R-W.Va.), wholeheartedly endorses a vote in favor of the referendum. Clements thinks this roadway needs to be widened, that it would make our area more appealing for development.

Regardless what stance you take, vote! It's been said before, but it bears repeating: If you don't vote, you should really not complain of the outcome.

The information, on the referendum and "Roads to Prosperity" endeavor, is out there. Research it, and then vote. Early voting is happening now, or head to the courthouse on Oct. 7.
